A Fabulous Event

Well, we just wrapped up our first-ever Leadership Summit, which was a special event for our highest-achieving Stampin’ Up! demonstrators, and I have to say that it exceeded my expectations. I thought it was a fabulous event.

We met for two days, and we had wonderful presentations from all the speakers, great dialogue (on occasion it was a little intense, but there’s nothing wrong with that—we asked for openness and honesty), and valuable interaction with a group of very influential demonstrators. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute, and I think we gained insight that will be very valuable as we move forward.

This event was different from our other Stampin’ Up! events. We intentionally kept it fairly small (about 120 demonstrators were invited, and almost 80 attended) so that we could have discussions where everyone could participate.

We also asked everyone to sign nondisclosure agreements, which means they promised to keep the information shared at this event confidential. We value our relationship with every demonstrator—and I mean that—and we are trying to work together as partners with our demonstrators more than ever before. We believe we took a significant step toward that with this meeting, where we discussed several very confidential topics, and I think those who were there appreciated our vote of trust.

We also kept the summit simple, without most of the fancy frills (decorations, stage, fancy presentations, music, etc.) that occurs at most of our other events. There were no swaps (gasp!) and no Make & Takes, although we did do a Make & Share, which were baby albums that we donated to a local nonprofit organization that takes care of young mothers.

There were also not a lot of gifts, although Pam Morgan (Stampin’ Up!’s vice president of Demonstrator Development) and I (along with a couple of other friends) spent many, MANY hours hand-stamping a Live with Passion journal and Kind Works bookmark for every participant. While they were quite time-consuming, they were certainly gifts from the heart, and I enjoyed the time I spent on them—as well as the hours of visiting while we stamped.

And tonight at dinner we were talking, and a couple demonstrators mentioned that they wanted to go to Dear Lizzie, which is just a couple of miles down the road. If you haven’t heard me mention Dear Lizzie, let me just say it’s one of my favorites stores in the whole world!

Well, before I knew it there was quite a group of demonstrators who wanted to go. We had chartered two buses to transport the demonstrators to dinner, so I ran outside and asked the two drivers which one felt the friendliest. They were both good sports, and after a few minutes of negotiations, we had worked out details for one of the buses to stick around for an extra hour to take those demonstrators who were interested to the store.

I loved sharing Dear Lizzie with some of my favorite friends. What a treat for me to see them wander around and check everything out. The boutique usually closes at 7 p.m., but I had called yesterday and mentioned that I thought a few demonstrators might be coming, and Laura (the owner, front row in the photo) said she’d stay open a little longer for us. She was surprised at the number of visitors, although I don’t think she minded the extra business at all. She told me right before we left that she was celebrating the store’s third anniversary today, and I was happy that we could be part of that special day.

So, while I’m certainly tired—the two days were packed—I feel so rejuvenated. I couldn’t have asked for it to go any better. I’m just hoping everyone else agrees. I guess we’ll have to wait and see before we start planning for next year. . .

What a happy group! Who wouldn't be happy to be specially picked to attend the Summit and get all the news up front and to voice your opinion as a demonstrator and most of all SHOP!!

Shelli I love the journal. Will have to case it!!! I love the two stamps sets used for the journal and bookmark.

I love being part of the SU family. Thanks for inviting us into your life and sharing all the news with us. When I came in to Utah for convention lots of girls were coming home, there were families with signs....I guess your family will be doing that soon too!!!

Again you are such an inspiration and thanks for ALL YOU DO!!!

I just want to thank all the demonstrators who participated in the Leadership summit. I know they are working hard along with you to do what is best for the company as well as the demonstrators around the world. I'm a little behind on the posts but I'm so glad your Dad is doing better!

SU! is so special in that you actually do what should be SOP in the business world, but is sadly lacking...Thank you for listening to our sister demo's about whatever it was you talked about...I can only say that I know whatever it was, it is going to make things better for us all...

I also wanted to add that I put a quote up on my bulletin board at school...and I put a picture of me standing next to you at convention under it - because it reminds me so much of you....

"People are beginning to see that the first requisite to success in business or in life is to be a good person."
-Herbert Spencer

Throw in your love of family - familial and demonstrator world-wide - and it makes you AWESOME!!

tfs and thanks for being you!

Shelli,

I took your advise to go to the Dear Lizzie store. I must say I was very disappointed. The customer service was HORRIBLE!!! I have never shopped at a store where people were so rude.

It must be a little refreshing not having to have such a jam packed event with all the frills. Sometimes the simpler the better, although the other (lots of decorations) is fun too.
I'm not surprised that so many wanted to go to Dear Lizzy's, I mean, women and shopping, what a great end to a weekend.

Shelli, you and Pam are very sweet to hand stamp gifts for the ladies. I've be very honored to have something made by you. I know they are too.

You are such an inspiration and I'm so glad that you started this blog so we can get to know you a little better.

Thanks for all you do.

Shelli,

I'm echoing the sentiments of others and I'm sure the sentiments of so many who haven't been able to comment on your blog........I love the way you run this company and all the time and effort you and all the great folks at SU expend to help us help ourselves!! I'm not a "top" demonstrator but I am so happy for the opportunities that SU affords me and all the positive inspiration (is that redundant?) that I receive from SU and the demos that I meet and associate with.

Take your vitamins so you can continue to keep hoppin' and sharing all the fun news and business of SU with us.

Best, Melanie

Shelli,
Thank you so much for the wonderful event in SLC this past week. You have a wonderful corporate team and that's not something that happened by accident - you are a inspirational leader and their respect and affection for you is obvious in everything they say and do. I love my journal - in fact I couldn't bear to write in it all week - I'm going to save it for my ideas, thoughts and hopes and try and fill it with positive thoughts for my business and life. The bus trip to Dear Lizzie was fun and let's face it.... how many demonstrators can say "I went shopping with Shelli!".

Shelli, what an HONOR & BLESSING to be chosen among the top demos to attend your first Leadership Summit. When I joined SU! 8 years ago, I never dreamed that it would take me this far. I just wanted to get thru the baby blues and not be "just a boob" everyday! HA! My life - and the life of my boys - are so richly enhanced and meaningful, all because of some wood and rubber! God is truly at work in this company and the lives of many involved. How I wish you could see the gratitude in my heart. It has been so wonderful getting to know you personally the past 2 months - at Founder's & now at the Summit. Thank you for going beyond what is required of you as a CEO - you, the CT and others you've surrounded yourself with truly exemplify the goodness and human spirit within all of us. I would never want to represent another company. Thanks for all you do and for being such an inspiration! Love, Beckie K.
