Heading Home from San Antonio

Well, I'm heading back to Utah tomorrow, after a wonderful regional seminar experience in San Antonio. San Antonio is one of my favorite places to visit, partly because it's almost always warm, partly because the river walk is so beautiful, and partly (mostly) because the people are so wonderful.

And this weekend was no exception. I left colder weather in Utah for beautiful weather in Texas, and the demonstrators were fabulous! They were so warm and friendly; they made us feel right at home. Our regionals went well, and-as always-I loved meeting with the demonstrators.

As promised last week, here's the project I showed--a fun little Halloween game.

These are is based on those hand-held toys we played when we were younger where you flipped up a ball on a string and tried to catch it in a cup. Only, as you can see, in this instance, you flip up a pumpkin (or a skull) on a string up and catch it in a pennant cup.

I'm planning on filling the cups with candy for our grandchildren, and after the candy is gone (which won't take long!), they'll have a little game to play. You'll need something to weigh down the pumpkin or skull; I used a dime, but it's a little heavy. If you can find something a tiny bit lighter, I think it will work better.

I thought this was a darling little game, and I was thrilled to demonstrate it at the regionals. However, wouldn't you know it, while I was there, a demonstrator gave me a gift--another Halloween game. I think I like it even better than this one! If I have time, I'm going to make a few to add to the Halloween treats I'm putting together for our grandchildren. If I do that, I'll be sure to post it for you to see too!

What a cute project! Thank you for sharing it.
I love visiting San Antoino, wish I could have been there. I really need to try and get to one of these get togethers.

Hi Shelly, very cute idea. How about using a washer. You can get them in different sizes and some are lighter than others.

Hope that helps!

This is a very cute and clever game idea. I enjoyed seeing you make it and enjoyed meeting you and other demonstrators. Reginonal was a ton of fun and I'm so glad that I was able to attend!

We really enjoyed seeing you in San Antonio yesterday! I am not a demonstrator, but attended the regional as a gues with some other demonstrator friends. We had lots of fun - even went down the day before and stamped at the hotel all afternoon. It was such a great time - wish it had lasted longer! Thanks for sharing your talents and thoughts with us.

Instead of a dime, would a spare piece of chipboard work? That would be lighter, and you would be re-purposing unused materials.

Sounds like you had a good time in Texas - the hospitality there is very unique (I used to live there). Love the pennant project - my suggestion is using one of the bigger kiwi buttons from the button bouquet as a weight. And just a side note: I opened up a box of my SU goodies this weekend, and I have to tell you how quickly I was reminded of how much I love the "gasp" and "oooooo" reactions from the quality of SU's products! Thanks!

I know that traveling is tough for you. Being away from home can be hard. Being a regionals attendee, just let me say how much it means to us when you are able to join us. Sure hope you're planning to visit us in Virginia Beach. (Sometimes, us East Coast girls feel slighted.)

Shelli:
I really enjoyed getting to meet you yesterday in San Antonio. The Regional seminar was great and I'm so glad I got to attend.

Shelli, I love reading your blog, but I gotta tell you something that's been buggin' me since you began. I love the patterned paper at the top of your blog page, but your postings begin over this background, and they are VERY difficult to read. Could the powers that be (tecchies) either change it so your postings are positioned lower, below this border, or change this to a solid background? My aging eyes would SOOOOOO appreciate it. Thanx

I really enjoyed meeting you after regionals on Friday--which BTW was my first Stampin' Up! event. This project was one of the reasons I came home and quickly used my Sr. Supervisor bonus to order the Pennant die... I also ended up ordering the Baskets & Blooms die. Such cute projects! Thanks for all of your inspiration!

Shelli it was awesome meeting you at the Regionals in San Antonio - I have always been told what a sweet wonderful lady you are and it is SO TRUE! Thank you for answering my question about the split shipping, my customers are thrilled to know it is in the works. I've got to try your Halloween game out, and so many other projects we saw demonstrated soon! This was my first event, and now I really HAVE to go to convention - can't wait!! Have a wonderful day!

Thank you for sharing. This project is so cute! I am envious of the warm Texas weather. We have already had snow here in Wisconsin! BRRRRRRR!

Cute project...I can't wait to see all the pictures a friend of mine took who flew down for the regional event. I would have loved to attend as we lived in San Antonio for 6 years and have friends in the area.

I also wanted to share a picture of my little one in his costume - b/c it is a costume that is very near and dear to every Stampin' Up! demonstrator. http://staciestamps.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/10/rogue-ups-little-man.html - this should be the link to the correct post.

It was great to see you in SA, Shelli! The whole team did a fantastic job - Regionals is always a great time to refresh and recharge - thanks for the inspiration! :)

Shelli,
I'm so late in posting this but it was fantastic to have you at the regionals in San Antonio. I know that me and my downline (and niece) felt like we had you all to ourselves on Friday as the group was so much smaller than most SU events we've attended. I so appreiate you taking the time to talk with me and sign my Celebrate scrapbook (not to mention looking through it and reliving convention with me). It was a super day and a great weekend!

Hi Shelli -- a long overdue, "I can't tell you how excited I was to see the video clip of you showing your holiday table!" I was thrilled to see your acetate box. I had been wondering to myself if it would work. I nearly stalked the UPS man today waiting for my pillow box die to finally arrive. I tried it w/ our acetate and am disappointed to see that it doesn't really score all that well. Did you use a thicker acetate? It appeared to be the case on TV. I have big plans for that box, so if you could give me a shout, it would be much appreciated. I'll be sure to share my creation. All of my best to you and your wonderful family!

Hi Shelli
Thanks for seeking me out after seeing my name on the board at the San Antonio Regional. That spoke volumes to my new recruit Margaret. Once again your warm, genuine and kind ways have been a blessing to me and to others. Thanks for your concern. It was great to see you. Blessings and Hugs Galore to you.
