A Bad Hair Week

I’m sure most of you have had a bad hair day once in awhile. I hate it when I can’t get my hair looking just right! But I’ve been having a bad hair WEEK!

It all started last Saturday, the second day of Europe convention. For some reason, the adaptor I’ve always used for my flat iron doesn’t working, so I’d been making due with the hotel blow dryer.

On Saturday, however, Pam Morgan lent me her adaptor—I was so excited! So I plugged in my flat iron, let it heat up, and then started to work on my bangs. It took about 1.3 seconds for me to figure out something was wrong because I could smell singed hair! Apparently the flat iron had heated up too much, and I had burned a hole in my bangs!

After a bunch of “Oh my goodness-es” and “my hair, my hair,” I managed to get my emotions under control, but there was nothing I could do about my hair. I didn’t even have my Snips with me to try to repair the damage. I felt like a four-year-old who had cut her own hair for the first time; I’m sure all you mothers know exactly what I’m talking about—the missing chunk of hair and cut bangs right up close to the scalp.

I flip-flopped hair over and under and across for the convention, used tons of product, and tried to smile big enough that people wouldn’t stare at the hair. Everybody had the good manners not to mention it, and I made it through Saturday.

But it’s not gotten much better, as you can see. (smile) When I got to Savannah, Shalae did what she could, but she said she didn’t dare cut too much, or there would be even a bigger hole. So this past week has been a bad hair week, and I’m anticipating a few more bad hair days before my bangs grow out a bit more.

If anyone knows any way to make hair grow faster, let me know!

I love your bangs! I think they look fantastic. I'm sure that next thing you know everyone will be walking around headquarters with the same bangs!

Oh my goodness, I feel for you! Hair is a very emotional thing for women and we grow very attached to it! It will grow back, of course, but it feels like a very long process when we are unhappy with how it looks in the meantime. I have never dared cut my hair shorter than shoulder-length for that very reason. I am so afraid that I won't like it and that growing it out will take forever...

Remember that it never looks as bad to others as we think it does when we look at ourselves because we are the only ones who know what it's "supposed" to look like!

This post made me laugh. So even Shelli has bad hair days. I am sure our demos will be suprised just as they were to see you in the bathroom. It reminds me of all the questions I got as a SAM about you and what you are like "behind the scenes". I always told them you were you out at convention or in the home office. Very much a human who even has bad hair days, although I wouldn't be shocked to find out this is probably your first. ;)

There is a hair care product you can buy called Nioxin, that a hair stylist told me about for my mom while she was going through chemo for Breast Cancer (she is fine, but just starting the Nioxin... so I don't know if it works for her yet) It is supposed to promote hair regrowth as well as make it thicker and stronger. My friend used it after her pregnancy when her hair became brittle and broke easily (even on prenatal vitamins). She swears by it as she has strong gorgeous sassy sexy hair!!

that being said, I agree with everyone else!

Hello Shelli,
I am sorry, this is completely unrelated. But I wasn't sure where to put this, but HAD to tell you this.
I was on the phone with my upline talking about us going to leadership together. When my 3 year old son comes behind me with a Holiday Mini Catalog in his hand screaming "MOMMY, MOMMY!! LOOK AT THIS LADY!!!" I looked behind me and saw the catalog and looked to see what he was so excited about. He was looking at your photo in the front of book. I said "Yes honey her name is Shelli" He said back to me "OHH Shelli! She is my friend, I love her" and walked away hugging your photo..... I thought it was the sweetest thing ever and wanted to share that with you.
Inky Hugs,
Cristena

Shelli, you could shave your head bald and you'd still be beautiful! I love how you style your hair whether you think it's a bad hair day or not, you're still sooo pretty!

OH, yes bad hair times! Yours does look rather marvelous, though!
I've trimmed my hair three times this week, still not good, my husband gave me the best advice, just wait a few weeks...it will grow out before you know it!....

My hair story (yes, everyone can laugh!).
I was working outside quite a bit, the sun bleached out my hair (usually very dark brown) so I decided I would try blond. A blond kit and a bottle of peroxide later, my hair was not blond, but ORANGE...it was horrible, it was so bad that a two year old boy I knew took one look at me and burst into tears...........and EVERYONE told me they didn't like it, I cried, too.....My daughter was getting married, so I tied little rocks to the bottom of each piece of hair...lol(maybe that would work??) made it grow faster and chopped it all off at about 1/2 inch for the wedding.
Again, your hair look cute!

Hi Shelli! Take a supplement called Biotin to make your hair grow fast, also you fingernails, too! It's available at Target, WalMart, Walgreens, probably your local grocery store too!
Although, I think your hair looks cute! No one would ever know!
We're too hard on ourselves!

You're so cute! I love your smile-real-big-to-distract attitude! Way to go! We've all been there, but don't know if I'd ever handle it with as much grace as you did, just humor and generalized mortification at what I had done.

I've found new hair accessories or fun bling-y earrings are a fun way to get through the wait-to-grow-out periods. :) Anyway, it's a good excuse to shop! :)

Oh, Shelli, you are so gracious to share this with us on your blog! I have very surly, thick hair (and lots of it!), so I have a LOT of bad hair days. I don't think I could ever bring myself to blog about a single one of them, but I am so touched that you would share your experience with us. Such a generous way to reach out to your readers in friendship. Thank-you! I hope your bangs grow out really quickly and that you're able to enjoy your chosen style (rather than a forced one!) again soon!

Shelli.....you still got it!
I think you hair is adorable! I had a Barbie when I was a child where you could push a button on her and the hair would grow! I wish I could to the same sometimes!

Shelli, you know there are NO mistakes in Stampin' Up!, only opportunities for creative embellishing! Your hair looks fabulous like always. But if it is really bothering you, prenatal vitamins will definitely get it growing fast! :)

Hi Shelli, your hair really looks cute! Really it does! I wouldn't even know and you are so brave to tell us the details! That is what I love about you being so real and honest! It is a wonderful photo, you look like a big sister to those grandkids and I love it!

Jim says the difference between a good haircut and a bad one is about 2 weeks! Good thing our hair is always growing out, right?

Hi! I enjoyed reading about your bad hair day. Please forgive me, but I did have a good chuckle. Not in a mean way, but it reminded me of a few of my own bad hair days and bad hair decisions I've made in the past. Big hair in the 1980s was my decade of bad hair! I like yournew hair cut. Hold your head up high and be the regal person you are. It will grow back so enjoy the new look. Thanks again for sharing your life adventures!

I agree with the positive comments. It really does make you look younger, hip (not that you didn't have a hip hairstyle before). Hair trauma aside, It reminds me of Alice's hair in Twilight. There are herbal supplements that say they will help with hair...
