A Bad Hair Week

I’m sure most of you have had a bad hair day once in awhile. I hate it when I can’t get my hair looking just right! But I’ve been having a bad hair WEEK!

It all started last Saturday, the second day of Europe convention. For some reason, the adaptor I’ve always used for my flat iron doesn’t working, so I’d been making due with the hotel blow dryer.

On Saturday, however, Pam Morgan lent me her adaptor—I was so excited! So I plugged in my flat iron, let it heat up, and then started to work on my bangs. It took about 1.3 seconds for me to figure out something was wrong because I could smell singed hair! Apparently the flat iron had heated up too much, and I had burned a hole in my bangs!

After a bunch of “Oh my goodness-es” and “my hair, my hair,” I managed to get my emotions under control, but there was nothing I could do about my hair. I didn’t even have my Snips with me to try to repair the damage. I felt like a four-year-old who had cut her own hair for the first time; I’m sure all you mothers know exactly what I’m talking about—the missing chunk of hair and cut bangs right up close to the scalp.

I flip-flopped hair over and under and across for the convention, used tons of product, and tried to smile big enough that people wouldn’t stare at the hair. Everybody had the good manners not to mention it, and I made it through Saturday.

But it’s not gotten much better, as you can see. (smile) When I got to Savannah, Shalae did what she could, but she said she didn’t dare cut too much, or there would be even a bigger hole. So this past week has been a bad hair week, and I’m anticipating a few more bad hair days before my bangs grow out a bit more.

If anyone knows any way to make hair grow faster, let me know!

Hi Shelli!
Wellll...I think your choppy bangs look very in vogue! I actually like them better choppy on you rather than long!
Im a hairstylist in So Cal, so if you're ever out this way....

I really think you should keep them shorty!
Hugs!

Shelli, I too love the "new look"! Since I've been a demonstrator for 13 years, I've seen many of your hairstyles through the years, I don't know that I've ever seen you having a bad hair day! You always look so "fresh and sassy"! So weather it's long with poufy bangs or short and choppy, you seem to pull it off beautifully--not many people can say that! And as my 14 yr old daughter says, "Mom, it's just hair, it will grow back!" ;)

Love the shorter bangs...they make you look younger (as if you needed that!) lol

Boy does that bring back memories. My husband and I were in Tahiti and I too was curling my bangs to straighten them a bit and add a bit of poof. There was a power surge and my bangs stuck to the curling iron and fried right off. My husband saw the smoke and said I was on fire and it was on my birthday, happy birthday to me! And it killed my curling iron, I was able to bring forward more hair and cut some to cover the hole. I know exactly how you felt, at least I didn't have to be in front of a bunch of people I knew. They will grow back, so sorry. We have to watch those power surges in foreign countries. I love your new look though. Say hi to Sterling for me and I'll see you in AZ. Hugs,

My oldest son came home from daycare this week with strange lines in his hair (he has a buzz cut) and I ket trying to rub my hand over them thinking it was touque marks...nope. Scissors. Apparently, he and his buddies at daycare all decided it would be a good idea to "test" the cutting abilities of their scissors. Sigh.

Sorry about your hair, dude. It still looks way cuter than mine on a good day!

I think your new hairdo looks great on you. I can not imagine you ever looking like I do on a bad hair day. And I agree about them making you look younger. Any younger and people will doubt the girls are your daughters. More like your sisters. I love how you share every part of your life with us. You sure did not need to share what you considered a bad moment, but thanks for doing that.
You are an awesome person and a wonderful role model to us all.

I don't know much about hair, but I just wanted to offer a cyber {hug} for the distressed feelings in your heart! Like some of the other comments - you still look terrific & no matter what, your heart shines through brightly & that's what I see. Becky K

Girlie - you look gorgeous no matter WHAT! That's one of the things we all always say about you, "How does she ALWAYS manage to look so CUTE!?!?!?!"

If anything, you hair looks even more trendy now with your asymmetry and lovely lines and angles and shine.....I am TOTALLY jealous (menopause hair is no fun!)

And you DO have a 1,000 watt smile so if you were a-grinnin' like you usually are, no one would notice if you shaved it all off and tatoo'd the Stampin' Up! logo on your dome.....

Shelli, I have seen the hair of people that use Ovation Cell Therapy for hair. They say it really helps with thin hair, and helps the growth. If interested, do an internet search for it, and I am sure it will pop up. Good luck! Bad hair WEEKS are no fun!

Oh my gosh Shelli, I have to agree with Jane, the bangs totally make you look younger. I say this was a great hair contraption malfunction.

See you in January with or without snap happy bangs!

Hugs,
Di

If anyone can wear 'bad hair' and still look great, it's you Shelli :-) You are so funny, love reading about your life...you share so openly.

Are you kidding me, I love them!!! You wear your hair so cute, we can't actually see how short to the scalp they are.....my vote, keep them short, funky and crooked! You could pull it off as if it was planned.

At least your hair was DRY!! Finally laughing about Founder's instead of wanting to cry. You always look great!

Beauty is from within and you've got it! So don't stress over it! (I know, easier said than done!)

I was lucky enought to go to Australia with my husband a few years ago and did the same hair singe style to myself...you'll laugh...later!

Stand tall!

What intense relationships we have with our own hair! I know how devastating that would have felt to burn a hole in such an obvious spot and then have to go out in public. My own hair fell out about 6 years ago and I wanted to hide under a rock! My hair has still not grown back (so if you find the magic growth formula, please let me know!). Now I wear "store-bought" hair . . . which sounds simple enough, but has its own little set of quirks (like, don't get too close to the hot stove or oven, and be careful on a really windy day!!). You know the old saying, "What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger". Take care!

Like everyone said, no one would ever have known - you still look great! I always imagined you had "hair and make-up people" for these kinds of events - don't all celebrities? :-) I've been wanting to chop my hair short for quite a while now - maybe I should have my own flat iron accident and force the issue :-) Hope to see you at Leadership!

Vitamins! I never would have noticed, and chances are neither did anyone else! I, too, love the shorter choppy bangs. Stick with that.

Shelli, you've got such a pretty smile, who looks at your hair? I also wanted to tell you I made the receipe from Sara for the Texas sheet cake for a church dinner and it was a huge hit. It was so rich and yummy. Tell her thank you for shring the receipe. Have a nice day, off to stamp.:)

My husband says, "Any haircut you can walk away from is a good haircut." I don't know who used to cut his hair before I met him, but it must have been a scary experience!

I think you would be lovely to thousands and thousands of people no matter what you looked like, because we've seen your heart... and it is beautiful.

(and protein shakes are my hair growing secret! Nails, too) : )

You always look wonderful; your smile is so captivating I can't imagine anyone would have noticed your hair. At least this wasn't an megabucks cut that you were disappointed with. It will grow, you will laugh about it, and bring different electric accessories next time you are overseas.
