A Christmas Greeting from Shalae

I asked my daughter Shalae to guest post today—she sent out darling Christmas cards this year that I wanted her to share!

Every year Jon and I send out Christmas cards—it’s pretty much the only time we keep in touch with our friends! Jon is in school, and the three preschool-age kids keep me plenty busy, so we don’t get to socialize much. And since we moved to Georgia in August, I really wanted to make sure we touched base this year!

When we started thinking about this year’s card, I kind of felt like we had to top last year’s card—which was very cool. Jon loves to come up with fun projects, so he took on the assignment.

He came up with a neat pull-down photo card. At first glance, it looks like a regular card, but it doesn’t open up.

Instead, you pull the photo down, out of the card.

The ribbon keeps it connected to the card. I loved it when he showed it to me, and got very excited about making them.

Well, 125 cards later, I had lost a little of my enthusiasm; they turned out to be more time-consuming than I thought they’d be! I spent days working on them. I even put my mom to work when she came and visited us last month. I was thrilled when we finally got them finished and mailed out! They were worth the effort though—everyone I talk to mentions how much they enjoyed receiving them.

I’m already thinking about next year’s card. I think Jon will be assigned to come up with the mechanics, but I will tell him we do NOT need to top this year’s card. I’ll be just fine with cards that don’t take nearly as long to make. . . .

WOW, what a lovely card. Jon can design my cards any time, I don't send that many. Must admit though I leave them to the last minute to do and send, one day I will get organised. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and may your New Year be safe and happy. Thankyou so very much for allowing me be apart of your wonderfull "Stampin Up!" family. xox

Very cool card indeed!!! I hope the people you're sending this to can appreciate the effort behind it! I get extremely bored after making 20 of anything... Kudos for making 125!!! Good thing you had some help, too.

Happy Holidays!

I "borrowed" last years card idea for our Christmas card this year. I changed out the stamp to personalize it for us. I love this idea and it might just be our card next year- I already told my husband we were doing a Christmas in July thing and I will make the cards then...and in December take the picture to go on the card since they grow so fast at that age! Thanks for the great ideas and Merry Christmas!

I love it! And I understand about the repetitive aspect. I'm good for maybe 3 or 4 max of the same card. Then I have to do something new. The best way for me to do multiples of the same card is to have my friends or customers come help me. Then it's a party & we ALL have a good time!

Wow what a beautiful card. I love the way you used the gallery set and the snow swirled set together. I never even thought to do that. Great idea. Thanks for sharing your talent. It was so worth the effort they look fab. I might try this next year.

I loved the card idea. I'm sure the mechanics of the card was not fun figuring out the first time or even the second. I am now inspired to try to make one of my own.
Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!

Your card was so beautiful! I can't believe I only found it now. I guess I was a bit busy during the holidays and didn't get to check out the blog as regularly! Is there any chance you might be able to share directions for this? Thanks so much!
