Helping Haiti

I don’t know if you’ve heard or not, but we’re involved in some promotions to help the Haitians who have been devastated by the earthquake last week. In addition to donating portions of the proceeds from the sale of a certain stamp set depending on each market, Stampin’ Up! bought some supplies for 5,000 hygiene kits. A few of our vendors also donated supplies for the kits as well.

We invited our employees to help assemble the kits over the next few days, and apparently the response was so enthusiastic that they got all the kits assembled in one day! I felt badly when I found out—I was working from home today and planned on helping assemble the kits later this week.

But when I opened the pictures they sent me from the home office, I admit that I teared up a bit and my heart almost burst. My disappointment at not being able to work side by side with others in this good cause was offset by the tremendous sense of pride I felt to be associated with people who are so willing to help out in any way possible.

It’s only fitting that one of these pictures shows our own Stampin’ Up! president Dale Fillmore, because the idea for the kits was his. Like so many of our Stampin’ Up! employees, demonstrators, and customers, he was looking for a way to help that would truly be beneficial.

We are excited to get these kits shipped off as quickly as possible; we are working through an organization that is already recognized and involved in the relief efforts. And our thoughts and prayers are with the innocent people who have been so devastated by this terrible event.

Shelli, You have set an amazing and tremendously genuine and caring example for your staff and company. I'm sorry to post a 2nd time I wasn't sure how else to reach you and/or my fellow demonstrators to find a way to reach out to other demosntrators who I know are so eager to help. This is my aim. I am in the process of putting together a campaign here in Canada (in co-operation with the Red Cross). My plan is to reach 1000 people.(friends, family, neighbors and their friends and family) If each of those people donates $10 (about the cost of two starbucks coffees) we will quickly reach $10,000! I think it's quite achievable!

I got thinking, why not try to reach out to 1000 demonstrators as well and with that effort the disaster relief efforts for the people of Haiti will double! If only $25 will provide 5 blankets to a family in search of warmth...think of what $10,000 will do! I know we all want to reach out and help and although we may not all be able to physically be there to lend a hand, I really believe that if we work together on this, we can be 1000 demonstrators making a difference.

Please advise if this effort would be in accordance with all rules set out by Stampin Up! and as to whether or not it would be permitted to suggest this on the Stampin Discuss boards (ie, would it be considered spam). I will have the paperwork to put my own campaign into motion so I would be happy to lead and collect the donations for a Demonstrator Campaign as well (only thing is I'm in Canada, it might have to be Cdn Demos or Cdn funds anyway I can look into that).

[concerned Haitian]

As i'm concern about my Haiti. After an Heavy natural disaster It's become back dated. And bearing unmeasurable sufferings. Still now it's facing crisis from all sides, created from the Earth Quake as well as by nature. But It's time to change the day, So request all of you to come forward to make tha days ahead distinctly.
I think at this moment HAITI really needs help to be rebuild.Outgoing Haitian President René Préval has set the presidential elections for Nov. 28, 2010.
