Syracuse Sorrows

As Sara and I parted ways in the airport yesterday morning, I was a little flustered because the first leg of my flight for the day had been canceled. Thankfully, I was able to get on another flight that put me into Seattle in plenty of time to catch my flight to Chicago and then on to Syracuse where regional seminars were scheduled for today and tomorrow.

Then, just before I boarded the flight to Chicago, I received a phone call from a co-worker telling me the Syracuse airport was closed due to bad weather--she and others were stranded in Cincinnati, trying to find a way to Syracuse.

Needless to say, after looking at all the options and considering the safety of our staff and those of you who were traveling, today’s regional was canceled. And, with Syracuse covered in a blanket of snow and no inbound flights, it was decided to also cancel Saturday’s regional.

So, after spending the day in airports, I arrived home late last night, and the others are on their way home as well. I think I can safely speak for those of us who were looking forward to spending a couple of days in Syracuse with many of you:  We are sorely disappointed! I’m sure you are too.

I’ll tell you what. Let’s wallow in our sorrow by sipping on a cup of hot tea or cocoa (if you can afford the calories!), turning up our favorite music, and stamping the weekend away! Then maybe we won’t feel so badly, you think?

Hello dear Shelli,

I'm a brand-new demonstrator (and a huge fan of everything SU for the past year and a half) who was looking forward to the festivities in Syracuse -- I had planned to travel there from Connecticut with the demonstrator I signed with, a woman who has become a very dear friend. We were both disappointed when, before the official cancellation, the weather and her illness prevented us from making the trip.

All I can say is that I am glad that you and the rest of the wonderful Stampin' Up! team are safe at home at this point, and I sincerely look forward to whatever event brings us together in the future.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the cocoa and stamping, as well as some time with your loved ones.

Such a bummer! I was really looking forward to my first big Stampin' Up event, but you can't control the weather! We here in the northeast hope you will consider rescheduling sometime- but stay away from Upstate NY in February!!

Though I am very sad that the second event that I was going to attend, and meet the famous Shelli, I am hoping that everyone who was going to attend Saturdays event have made it some place safe... I hope SU does reschedule another event for the spring, upstate NY is beautiful that time of year... SU has been awsome to deal with and they handle everything so well. They Rock!!!

Yes, what a bummer for those who were going. My Uncle lives in Syracuse & with well over 100 inches of snow each winter falling there, I think you should avoid winter to have a Regional in NY! Hope you can reschedule for another time.

Although disappointed
Its not any ones fault and I think everyone understands, no one wants to be on the roads in this weather and I am already arranging an on line mail in swap so we have so great ideas
I hope every one get home safe that's what is important now!

We are so sorry to miss you in Syracuse this weekend but understand that there was just no way to get here by air or for many "on the ground" to travel safely. Please, please do consider rebooking for our area as we sure do want to host you and the Stampin' Up! staff. It would be the first ever NY regional in your 20 years!

I was so excited to see we were going to have a regional event so close to home!! But was a little worried about it being scheduled in the winter. Demo support has said they are not concidering rescheduling at this time. I hope that SU will at some point try it again. May, Sept, and October are very nice months here in NY. Summer of course would be nice too but Convention is then :) That is what I will look forward to next!! It was very nice of Demo support to take time to call also.

I am glad everyone is safe. This snow here in NY is incredible right now. In Hopewell Junction, schools have been closed for 3 days already. Power has been out for many. Trees have been coming down everywhere (including one on my basketball pole & then my car yesterday).

Please consider coming back to our great state in May, September or October. Those are much better traveling times. September is also a great apple picking time here.

By the way, I did not sign up for the regional (even though it was killing me not to) due to the weather. Our family traveled to that area for my brother-in-law's wedding in mid December and we had a life threatening ride home. I did not want to have that weather related experience again. If sign ups were low it was due to the weather potential not because we did not want to attend. We New Yorkers love SU!!

I totally understand why SU had to cancel the regional seminar in Syracuse. Being a lifelong resident of upstate NY I know how winter can be in this area. I'm disappointed that the seminar was canceled, but am hoping another will be planned. I am a new demonstrator and have been stamping for 2 years and am totally "hooked". I was looking forward to some stamping fun and making the remainder of the winter bearable. Please, please, please reschedule. I thought SU handled the cancellation wonderfully. I got a call saying the seminar was canceled...which I had already seen on the website and through e-mails from friends, but for SU to take the time and effort to try and call all registrants was phenomenal. Please give all of us in the Northeast something else to look forward to by scheduling another seminar! Upstate NY really does have some nice weather!

Winter traveling is also difficult where I live (NW Iowa) which is why I've missed several Leaderships. I just had a scary drive in a white out on the way home from the Minneapolis airport. Hope everyone made it home safe and that SU! will reschedule for you during a better travel month.

Hearing that you were going to be in Syracuse makes my disappointment 10 fold, however I am just thankful that everyone from SU is safe. This storm hit with a vengeance, and it's still coming down here in northeast PA. Hopefully SU will consider rescheduling for a later date. I know I'll be there!

I too am a very new Demonstrator and a very big fan of Stampin Up! Being so new,I was excited to be going to the Stampin Up seminar in Syracuse since I was traveling with a talented and very inspirational dear friend whom signed me up, only to be bummed that it had been cancelled. We all understand and are glad everyone is safe. We are looking forward to hearing of any news of Stampin Up's return to New York....it is a great place to live, work, play and travel! Enjoy!

I signed up knowing the weather was a great unknown. I live in NH but my In-laws are in Syracuse. What better place for my kids to be on school vacation than Grammy and Pop's! It was a win-win situation. I was bummed, but was able to spend more time with family.

I'm glad that you guys all made it home safely. Hope to get a chance to see you in the future.

While I was very excited and looking forward to my first Regional event, I understand why it had to be canceled. Since I already had the day off from work and my dear husband would be stuck plowing snow all day, he suggested "why don't you just have your own Regional?" So, that's just what I did - invited everyone who was chatting about the Regaional to come, stamp and swap in my studio called the "Rubber Room". We had a great time in spite of the weather and hope to make it an annual event! There are pictures on my blog at http://newhartfordstamper.blogspot.com if anyone wants to see a pic of the snow. Hopefully, we can try again in the 2 months of nice weather we have here in Central New York!

When I first saw the Syracuse Regional posted on the Stampin' Up! web sight I thought Febuary?...Syracuse??...clearly no one in event planning has ever visited Syracuse in Febuary before! My self and my downline quickly signed up, since we are hardend north country girls, snow will not phase us!! The snow started on Tuesday, with school closed. Our power went out on Wednesday..still snowing and no school. The power was out for over 30 hours! Have you ever cut cardstock for swaps by flashlight?? The power came back on Thursday night just in time for more dumping of snow, but at least I was able to emboss & finish my swaps. Then the worst blow of all... the phone call from demo support. All well understood, back to my original skeptical point of view about Febuary and Syracuse, I do look forward to Stampin' Up! coming back to New York. I was thrilled to see you were finally coming to us, and hope to see plans to try again.

Hi Shelli,
Thank you so much for your kind words to all of us that were meant to attend the Syracuse Regionals. Initially we were bummed, but I have to say in true SU spirit we had an amazing experience meeting new friends, stamping, sharing, chatting and just having fun with the girls! I've included a link to my blog with a scrapbook page from our day of fun. Thank you for thinking of all of us, but know we all understand and are glad everyone is safe.
Take care,
Heather Summers

Hi Shelli,

Glad that everyone made it home safe and sound, but as a new demo I was truly looking forward to the Syracuse Regionals. I really hope that you can re-schedule this spring in NY which is a beautiful time hear in the northeast.

Take care,

Stacie

Dear Shelli,

We were all so excited to be attending the Syracuse Regional on Saturday. Many members of our team and guests were planning on attending. We could fully understand why everything was canceled. But, we also felt such diappointment -- so much preperation went into the event both on SU's part and ours. So, sixteen of us managed to get a lovely location on Saturday to meet, each brought a shoe box swap and munchies and ordered a pizza for lunch and had a great time. We watched some SU DVD WOWs and stamped the day away. We had our "Lemonade party" from the lemons we were delt.

We sure hope you decide to try us again in the better weather months.

Happily Stamping,
Diane

I feel the pain of the NY snowbound who were deprived of Regionals do to Jack Frost and a nippy nose. But just for the record California is a wonderful place to hold Regionals in February. I know you were wondering so I thought I would clear your mind of worries. All day regionals right here in Cali...LA area and we can hit Disneyland or San Fransico and we can hit the Ghirardelli and the Jelly Belly Factory sounds like a win win to me. hehehe...oh and if you were worried about finding presenters I'm in...and I would help set up too if that would help you come my way.
ideas girl,

I am so sorry that our first bad snowstorm of the year happened just at a time to cancel the Regionals in Syracuse. I was so excited to have a regional right here in N.Y.,but I will tell you I am still shovaling out.We even had wires down across the driveway. Maybe another regioal could be planned for spring, summer, or fall. We have beautiful color in the fall. I am glad that everyone that was traveling got back safely.Hope to see everyone at some future date.

Hi Shelli!

So glad you all made it safely home to Utah!

I was so happy when you all scheduled the Syracuse Regional, but have to honestly say I wouldn't have been able to attend as it's about 4 hours from me (I'm just outside of NYC) and let's face it, the dead of winter isn't the ideal time of year for that trip as you learned. Is there any chance you might consider a regional more centrally located in NY State or perhaps one in the tri-state (NY, NJ, CT) area that more of us would be able to attend? From a geographic standpoint, it might be more "do-able" for those of us who would like to attend. Please consider!!!
