Dawn's Dream Workshop

My last official Workshops of a Lifetime week has begun—in grand style. At the end of this week, all the workshops except for two (which we’ve had to push back to August because of scheduling conflicts) will be done! I can hardly believe it!

The drive here set the mood through beautiful wooded countryside. I arrived Monday night and stayed with my good friend, Sue, who is accompanying me on this round of workshops. We didn’t realize how long the drive was until we googled it and discovered that we’d need to get up quite a bit earlier than we anticipated! But it wasn’t too bad—the drive was gorgeous and peaceful (we only got lost once), the conversation was lively, and I learned that U-turns in New Jersey aren’t really U-turns; they’re jug handles!

Dawn’s workshop was scheduled to start at noon (we started a little late because we waited for a few guests), and it was one of the smaller groups, which always makes for a cozy workshop experience. We had a wonderfully diverse group, ranging in age from a 13-year-old avid stamper who is counting down the days until she can sign up (five years and one month—her mother is a demonstrator, and no, she didn’t attend) to several guests who were a few decades older (smile), as well as a handful of people in between.

We had grandmothers and Girl Scout troop leaders and mothers and women from all sorts of different areas, and by the end of the workshop, we’d all enjoyed our time together. (Dawn and her workshop hostess, Elise, are in this photo with me.)

I felt like a couple of the guests weren’t very excited about being there; I think they felt obligated to come. (None of you demonstrators have ever experienced that, have you?) I was pleased when, after the workshop was over, they hung around a little to chat, and one even said, “I can’t believe that you can take a piece of paper and make a card out of it in five minutes!” That always feels like a success to me, when you capture someone’s attention who was initially not very interested. I was grateful they took the time to be there, and even more grateful that they had a delightful (I hope) experience.

The projects went over well; they featured products from the mini, as well as the May promotion. Most of the guests were newbies, and they caught on quickly. Dawn isn’t closing the workshop until Friday, so I’m not certain how her sales were, but she did get one booking—and  hopefully a new recruit in about five years!

Tonight was Dawn’s demonstrator event, which was a large group gathering. Dawn called the event a “Dream Night” and invited everyone to come wearing pajamas. She gave me a darling pair of handmade pajamas and slippers (that matched hers!), so I got to spend the night in my jammies. Loved that!

We took lots of pictures, enjoyed a to-die-for chocolate fountain, stamped, and chatted. It was a great night, and they were all still partying when I left!

Shelli-
I just love your blog as well as being a demo for such a great company! But I have a question that has nothing to do with stamping...do you always layer your shirts/tops? I realized a couple of weeks ago that every picture I see of you that you are wearing some type of cute cardigan or jacket over an undershirt. I, too, suffer from Cardigan Sickness, and felt great that there might be a fellow sufferer out there! I just like the look of two layers most of the time and was wondering if you felt the same way? As Houston heats up already, my layers have to get much lighter or non-existant and it always makes me sad to put my cute cardigans up for the summer.
Thanks for indulging in my silly question for the day! Keep up the great work!

Shelli - it was sooooo great seeing you again...I hadn't been able to attend a regional or a convention for about a year and a half, and sad to say, I won't make this next convention either...(unless I hit the PowerBall lottery!! LOL). And sorry I didn't have my jammies on for the Dream Night...I did think about it, but with travel through NJ and Pa to my home, I thought it risky to possibly scare the state police in two states...not to say that I drive too quickly or anything... ;-) I am glad you now have a face to put with my name, because I have just gotten back on the blog rounds so you'll see my name pop up again here...

So once more - lovely time with you, Dawn and my sistahs in INK....keep up the good work! You looked great! (as usual!)

Shelli it was such an honor to meet you at Dawn's awesome event! You are just as beautiful and gracious in person as everyone has always told me! Next time you're in the area, don't forget to stop in Susquehanna PA now that you know the significance!

What a great theme for a stamping event--Dream night! Chocolate, jammies, and stamping...now I want to CASE that! Thanks for sharing all of your workshops of a lifetime--I've enjoyed them so much and loved hearing your perspectives as you traveled around the country. It's fun to hear about real life in other parts of the country and what others think about the things we take for granted where we live (I live in Ohio and loved your comments about plowed corn fields.) And I've really loved the Make&Takes and demo samples...guess it is all about the stamping!

I've just caught up with your latest round of workshops. They sound like fun & the samples are great - especially from this one. Sorry for your troubles with Garmina - I've got her sister in my van & sometimes I get the same misdirections. Gotta love "recaculating!"
Hope you have smooth traveling for the rest of your workshops..well, those will be in Aug., so I hope the new catty transition goes well & then those last workshops in Aug.

Shelli I have to say there are not many CEO's out and about doing business that when presented with a matching pair of jammies to their host would takie them and WEAR them willingly - perhaps the business world would be a bit less stuffy if that were the case :-)

I haved loved readding these stories and the running late one later on - I once had a party and turned up and everyione there and ready and I thought I was 30 mins early.......me saying i would be there at 7 to set up was taken as guests be there at 6.30 - eekkk

I just wanted to request some stamps that I would like to see maybe someday available. I love everything about stampin up and would be thrilled to see some
Classic pickup
Classic car
the years of maybe anywhere back to 57-66, I honestly think they would be great sellers. There are a lot of classic cars/pick up collectors. I live in So Ca and attend some car shows that are amazing. Is there any way you may consider this? You can see that I am a really huge customer. Thank you

Shelli, you are an amazing woman. I agree with the writer who said not many CEOs would wear the pjs and participate in the dream night the way you have. I wish I could have been there. Dawn is such a fantastic supporter of Stampin' Up and I love and have enjoyed participating as a member and as a guest designer on her "UStamp With Dawn and Friends" series. Everytime I go on her site I fall more and more in love with Stampin' Up and what it means to all the great demos around the world. I never would have met my stamping Austrailian/New Zealand friends had it not been for Dawn. Thanks Shelli for opening our worlds and horizons.............. appreciated.
