Convention 2008

August 3, 2008

I know I said this would go live on Monday, but I just had to get on today and post my first entry.

After months of anticipation and hard work and excitement, convention is over!

I love convention! I love feeling the energy and looking at all the great project ideas and popping in on the classes. But what I love most about convention is meeting people from across the United States and Canada, talking to them and sharing our enthusiasm for what we do!

I have to be honest though—it’s hard work, and I’m exhausted. But I had to get on and share what I was feeling. I wanted my first blog to be about how much I love and appreciate our wonderful Stampin’ Up! demonstrators and staff members! And how much I loved spending the last three days with so many of you.

Check out this sample that I saw! We have thousands of projects displayed on our display boards at convention, and I enjoy seeing as many of them as I can. This is only one of hundreds I took pictures of, and I wanted to share it with you. I liked it because it made me happy! I love the Always set, loved the color palette (they are colors I’ve used in my own stamp studio), and loved the layers. I just loved everything about it.

I’ll share more project ideas—and thoughts about convention—in the days to come. But for now I’m going to rest and recover, go cuddle on the couch with my sweetheart and get ready for the coming week. We’ll chat more later. . . .

Shelli,
Thanks is not enough for the amazing convention that I just attended with my friends and fellow demonstrators on the Forever Hearts of Rubber Team! You and your staff deserve a raise! The time, effort and care put into this event really shows; and created so many memories and bonds with my fellow demonstrators. It is truly amazing how every year seems to "top" the one before it! We couldn't stop talking about the way it ended with the UPS trucks and free stamp sets for all! What an encouragement it was to see all the charitable causes we have supported and a highlight for me is the "Heart of Stampin' UP!" award, it moves me to tears everytime! The way you run this company with such integrity and character is refreshing! You are an inspiration and a blessing, and I look forward to this opportunity to get to know you on a more personal level in your blog! You conitnue to inspire us with your actions to face our fears and try new things. You are a tremendous role model and testimony to all those you come in contact with! Have a blessed day and hugs to you!

Shelli...you are an inspiration to ALL women. I loved my first visit to SLC but can you turn down the heat, just a little.LOL
I got so much from convention and the classes, THANK YOU so much. Looking for to my future with SU!!

Dear Shelli:
Thank-you SO much for Convention! I've been trying to imagine how much time, hard work and talent went in to creating such an amazing, inspiring, and professional three days--and keeping thousands of creative women entertained--WOW! Just wanted to also say thank-you for sharing in such a beautiful way with the stamping world the family and religious values I also share. You're a wonderful example. Thanks to all your staff as well! Loved every minute of it and can't wait for next year! Thanks again! Julie Campbell

WOW! What a great 5 days in Salt Lake City. You and your staff worked so hard to make our convention experience great and I want to thank you all. I know this is YOUR blog but I do want to say thanks. Thanks especially for having the main stage ideas posted today. I was online as soon as I could be this morning looking for them - what wonderful inspiration! And the M&T's were great this year also. I'm having dinner with some other ladies from my school's PTA tonight and I can't wait to show them the book mark - what a great teacher gift idea. And finally what a Beautiful Blog. Can't wait to see more. A Happy Stamper in MD!

WoW!!!
As a new demo & 1st time Convention attendee - holy cannoli - I am still jazzed, even after driving back to sunny San Diego from Utah!!!
I had a fraction of a slit-second to be disappointed when my green solid wrist-band was not a winning color, but then I simply cried and felt humbled b/c I received FOUR free stamp sets and have The Most GORGEOUS SU! bag E V E R!
Not to mention the last 3 digits on my wrist-band were my birthday!!! ;-D
I also saw my dear friend & upline, Kimberly, for the first time since Fall 2004, who remained in my life even though I didn't join The SU! Family until the end of last year.
How exciting to see her & meet in person all my virtual friends!!!
The only down side was seeing people's true nature - the pushing and shoving... I was hurt when a woman pulled a chair right out from under my bum - BUT - that very pain afforded me the opportunity to meet Dale & Kathy!! What generous souls they are!!!
Dale himself even brought me an extra chair to lift my post-surgery foot off the floor @-@
THANK YOU ALL for making this an enjoyable, inspirational, growing experience!!
I am HOOKED and will NOT miss another Convention, even if I live to 108!!! LOL
Warmly, Robyn

Shelli, How exciting to be able to share in your life through your new blog. It looks fantastic. The color of the font though is a little hard to read (black shows up better).
Can't wait to see what new and exciting things will be posted here. Ida

Note from Shelli: We're looking into the font color. I'll keep you posted--or else you'll find it darker one day and know we were able to change it! :-)

Oops!
I forgot to add how much my hubbie enjoyed being a guest on Awards night and that he now "gets" what I do and, even more importantly, WHY I choose to do it!!

One last thing: You should book the Olympic Park so each one of YOU can experience the Extreme Zipline as Jerry & I did -- just go potty before being launched out that door, or you will pee your panties!!!

My upline & dear friend, Kimberly, keeps telling us to put on our Big Girl panties and deal with life, but after that ride, I think I graduated to Depends :-O

Shelli,

Thank you so much for doing what you do! I've been a demonstrator for 4.5 years, but a stamper for many many more than that. My daughter (downline) and I returned from SLC yesterday with fresh new ideas and wish lists a mile long. This being my fourth convention, I thought I knew what to expect. You and your staff always have a way of bringing more and more fresh and exciting things to keep our interests peaked and our businesses on the rise.

You are such an inspiration to all of us!

Your blog will be added to my daily ritual. I look forward to seeing your continued enthusiasm through blogging.

Rubber hugs,

Heidi

This was my second Convention and it was really wonderful. My proudest moment was walking across the stage together with my upline Jen, up-up-upline Glenda and Side-line Julie, and mascot Stanislav, the sock monkey, for our senior associate promotion award. I was so excited! And then, to top it all off, I won the simply scrappin' kit and alphabet to make the You,Me,Them and Us albums! I was so happy and so thankful! Thank you again to you and your entire staff for putting together such an awesome event! I can't wait to see what's in store for us in Orlando at Leadership!

Thanks so much for sharing. I'm a new demonstrator and wasn't able to attend this year. But, oh how I look forward to attending in the future. It looks and sounds like one of the most exciting events to ever attend.

Thanks Shelly for this wonderful blog. SU is definitely about relationships, so I'm so glad to be able to get to know you better, even if it's via the virtual world! Looking forward to future posts.

P.S. Convention was wonderful! What a way to end it on our 20th anniversary with Mr.Brown!

Oh Shelli,
I had such a marvelous time at my very first convention this year! Everything was so wonderful and the feelings of fellowship with my the other demonstrators was amazing! It was as if I had known many of them forever and even met a few in person that I have chatted with online :) The Riverton tour was beyond any of my expectations! From the positive employees on hand to answer questions and direct us to all the great places on this superb unguided tour (I loved being able to go at my own pace and dwell amongst the most inspiring areas), to the awesome state-of-the-art distribution system to the captivating sneak peeks I was absolutely amazed at everything and everyone!!! Hope you were able to find my shout out on the idea room's white board :)
Thank you for continuing to make such great products, add such perfect accessories and tools and have such helpful staff!
Blessings,
Beth

First, I wanted to tell you THANK YOU and to your staff for a wonderful conference. It was amazing and it definitely has motivated me in ways I can't explain. Second... honestly, my FAVORITE part of convention was you announcing your blog. So thank you for doing this... I know I'm not alone in this! Rest, relax... you worked so hard and I can't wait to read more from your blog!!

Shelli, I love your new blog. Thanks for sharing it with us. I had a wonderfull time in convention this year. The picture of you in your blog is great. I did notice that the jacket matches the stamp set Organic Outlines. Is this part of your new line?? I notice this picture at the general session.

As a first-timer to convention - I am blown away by all that I have experienced - and I mean that in a good way! I signed up in September last year because I had fallen in love with Stampin' Up!'s products. But now through Convention & hearing you speak from your heart & seeing how SU! is dedicated to us, I can say that I have moved from just loving Stampin' Up!'s products to loving the company, Stampin' Up! and all that you stand for, how you give back to the community & how you love & respect each member of the demonstrator family. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of such a wonderful company!
