A Blah Day

I don’t have blah days very often, but today was one of those days.

I set the alarm for 8:00 just in case we didn’t wake up on our own (sure that we wouldn’t need it). So, when the alarm went off, I was shocked! I told Sterling we needed to get up and get going and then proceeded to go right back to sleep—I never sleep in like that! Needless to say, when we finally did get out of bed and Sterling was getting his dad ready for the day only to find him light-headed and unsteady, I was slightly relieved that I didn’t have to rush around to get ready for church (Sterling and I take turns staying home with Grandpa when he’s not up to going out, and it was my turn to stay home).

I’ve spent the entire morning in slow motion looking at hundreds of photos while trying to find a few specific photos for an upcoming post. The experience has been enjoyable and frustrating—enjoyable because I love looking at photos and reminiscing and frustrating because my photos should be better organized. Hence, another goal for 2009 is to have ALL my photos organized. Sterling even agreed that our office would be the perfect place to leave photos out (and locked up so the grandchildren can’t touch them) while I work on this huge project that just might take the entire year (that’s once we organize our already cluttered office, which is this week’s project).

This afternoon, I snuggled with Sterling in our “chair-and-a-half” and fell asleep, certain that when I woke up I’d have tons of energy to attack another project that’s needed to be done for months—writing wedding, baby, and condolence cards to family and friends. The nap was nice, but I’m still moving slowly and feeling rather groggy. So, I’ve set the cards out on the kitchen counter, and if I leave them out (it bugs me when projects are sitting out on the counter for any length of time), I’ll be sure to write a few each night this week.

Maybe my subconscious knows all the things I secretly have planned to accomplish this week and wanted to take a day off. I’m okay with that. Really I am. In fact, Sterling and I even watched a movie together while sipping on a fruit smoothie and nibbling on caramel popcorn—a rare occasion indeed.

Subconscious, enjoy today because tomorrow it’s full steam ahead. No time for any more blah days for a while. I have an office to organize!

Shelli, you obviously needed some downtime! I hope Sterling's dad had a better afternoon. Deep breath, tomorrow you may resume your "to do" list and all will fall in to place - I too have a stack of cards that I am tackling, a few at a time, each day.

Well, it is supposed to be a day of rest.
Maybe there is something in the yucky Utah air right now. I have been rather tired all day. Snuggled w/ my hubby until we both feel asleep and then later in the day we watched a movie while enjoying a fruit smoothie & popcorn (minus the carmel). Some days you just have to unwind. It's nice to hear that you allow yourself that pleasure. Good luck w/ all the projects.

With all the things you do in a week, I think you deserve a blah day. Tomorrow will be a new day to get your things done.Good luck.

Oh, of all people, you deserve a down day, or many! Enjoy your downtime with your hubby - the cuddle sounds lovely - I might have to go cuddle Tom (mine) now! :)

When you weren't awake before the alarm, your body was obviously trying to tell you something. You need to listen to your body and catch up on some rest. Everyone deserves a day like you had. You need to take care of you.

If your best friend told you about a "blah" day, you'd probably tell her that taking care of herself and having a slower-moving day was good for her every now and then.
As for the stacks of photos, just tackle them a bit at a time.
I am a former demo who just got a new catalog the other day and Oh how beautiful it is! As I always tell people, it is so much easier to go through the catalog and mark what I don't like than what I do because I'd only use about 4 sticky notes that way.

Okay, now I don't feel so bad about my blah day yesterday--I just curled up with a book and let it go by without accomplishing much of anything!

I guess it was that type of weekend. It has been snowing on and off here for 5 days and now one was moving very fast here. Much like you, my schedule is jam packed this week, so a day of leisure was very nice. Hope you woke up feel ready to go this morning.

Your day yesterday sounds a lot like ours. We usually wake up in plenty of time to get ready for church, but yesterday we woke up a half hour before we were supposed to leave. So we stayed home and relaxed with the kids and watched football.
We all need days like that every once in a while to relax and unwind. I hope you feel energized to tackle those things on your to do list today.
Oh, and your photo problem is the exact same thing I've been facing. Was just complaining about it to my husband this morning! I hope to get mine done soon too.
Shelli, I love reading about your normal every day life. You are so down to earth, warm and friendly. I love the realness I see in your posts. It makes me smile.
Hope your day is blessed!

A friend of mine calls these 'low energy days'. The best part about calling them by that name is that it gives me permission to have and enjoy them. Peace.

This is probably a weird comment, but I subscribed to your blog when it very first came out, in Google Reader. I added the subscription using the soshelli.com web address, but the pictures would hardly ever show up in my Reader window. I recently resubscribed, this time using RSS Feed URL, and all the pictures are coming up fine now. I just wanted to share this, in case anyone else was experiencing the same photo issues :-)

Note: To get the URL (web address) of the RSS Feed, go to the So Shelli blog and scroll down the left sidebar. Under the Search box, you'll see an orange symbol which says Blog RSS next to it. Right click on that symbol and choose Copy Shortcut. Then paste that web address into your blog reader wherever it asks for the blog or feed address.

Maybe it's all that sleep deprivation from Leadership that is catching up with you! I know I've been in a fog all last week. My body flew back home, but I think my mind decided to walk and enjoy the scenery because it only came back home a few days later!

I hope you feel more energized tomorrow!

Everyone needs a day like that once in awhile. And, as you mentioned, Monday's come way too fast. Thanks for all you do, I love Stampin Up!

I think your subconscious was telling you to take the day off to get yourself ready for the NEW CATALOG DEBUT! I'm so excited about all the great new stuff we have this time around! :)

Every now and then you need a blah day. I'm thinking yesterday was a good day for it as I'm sure things are hectic today!!!

With the pace you've been keeping I'm not at all surprised! Your body is trying to tell you something. I'm glad you had a day of rest before the new week began. You are an inspiration to me!

Oh Shelli, I had two blah days in a row on Saturday and Sunday! I think mine was Leadership and Walt Disney World hang over though. I was gone for 12 days between the two and I just couldn't get it in gear this weekend and I had so much I felt I needed to do. Thankfully, I woke up this morning feeling very rested and ready to go. I'm just glad to know that other people have those kind of days too! Hope today was better and you were able to move forward with your busy schedule. Take care!

You can't fight those days. You need em, girl.

The photo fight is a tough one - if you master it, you better share!

Thanks for the new catalog today - absolutely holding my breath until that shipment notification. You earned that caramel popcorn with this one!!! :)

Hi Shelli,
I love Stampin Up and the new catalog is absolutely beautiful!! I just got mine today from my demonstrator. I am so sad though that the directions for the creations are not in the back anymore. But I guess I will have to be more creative now :) Thanks again for such beautiful work!

I spent part of my day going through photos and thinking that mine should be organized better too.
I knew I felt connected to you when I met you n Philly. Continue to keep it real!

Yay, I'm glad someone else had a blah day yesterday as well! Well I am going to add just this... I'm so thrilled with some of the new products in the Spring/Summer Cattie, and can't wait for the Digital Scrapbooking Program! I'm getting married this July, but am saving all my pennies so I can afford to purchase it! :) LOL:) I know but I am going to be on a tight budget so I need to! Well hopefully you get some things that need doing accomplished!

You certainly don't look like you are having a Blah day in that new picture on your header.
Love, love, love the new layout of your blog!

I can totally relate. My husband 4 year old daughter and I had a blah day today too. We lounged in our bed and read stories and nibbled dry cereal until noon. We got with the full intention of taking down our Christmas tree (yes it is still up because we were called out of town for an emergency with my father.) Well, we didn't take it down and declared the rest of the day a "Jammie" day. We watched movies and "played" all day.

Hooray for "blah" days!

Hi Shelli,
I have blah days much too often where nothing seems to get done. Anyway since you are trying to better organize your photos I couldn't help but mention the most wonderful new program that I have discovered invented by Apple computers. I have an apple myself but don't think you need one for this program. It's called iPhoto but and its been around forever but it is new and improved. Below is a link to a tutorial for it. Check it out it's really something. http://www.apple.com/ilife/iphoto/guided-tour/large.html

I agree Iphoto is great. I have an apple too and just love it! I am glad that i am not the only one to have days like that. we all need them once in awhile. We just got back from Huatulco in Mexico. A really great holiday! Hard to get back into gear, so a blah day is what I had when we returned!
