Slowing Down for Build-A-Bear

I should have learned this lesson by now, but I haven’t. I keep thinking that things will eventually slow down—just a little—and I’ll be able to sneak in a few “not burning hot” things into my schedule. (sigh)

The last few weeks have been enjoyably hectic. Getting ready for convention, then attending convention, then spending a couple days with Leslie, then heading down to Kanab. Plus I need to pack for the Australia incentive trip! I’m thrilled—incentive trips are some of my favorite events because it feels wonderful to reward our top-achieving demonstrators for all their hard work—but it feels like it’s been one thing after another.

When I got home from convention earlier this week, I had managed to grab a few Build-A-Bear bears for my grandchildren. My grandson Sam, while grateful for the gift, did mention that the Stampin’ Up! apron wouldn’t be his first choice for clothing for his new BOY bear. Without thinking, I said, “Oh, Sam, I’ll take you to the store and you can buy a boy outfit for your bear.”

As soon as the words popped out, I thought, “Great, Shelli! When are you going to fit that in?” But when I saw his eyes light up and his big smile, I knew I’d make the time.

And, it couldn’t be just Sam! So most of the grandchildren and I (along with dads and moms, because I knew I’d need help!) headed for Build-A-Bear and a crazy hour picking out clothes. And I thought shopping for human clothes was an adventure!

Now the bears (which are incredibly soft!) are also incredibly adorable, and we all have a great memory of a beary good time!

Shelli that build-a-bear looks like so much fun! I wish that we could have that range in New Zealand. (Just a little hint!)

I'm so glad that you're heading down for the Incentive trip this coming week. I'm really looking forward to seeing you again, and meet Stirling too?

I hope that you don't have to spend too much of the trip working, and you'll get to have some time to relax too.

See you soon - just 4 more sleeps until I get on the plane!

Sometimes it's not the things at the top of our "to do" list that are the most important.

Hi Shelli,

this story is so funny to read. Well, not really FUNNY, but you'll know what I mean when I tell you that my youngest of 4 just turned 9 last week, and wished for the scruffy puppy from BaB. And so I have a lot of the same pics from our own trip to this magical store. He picked the soccer outfit, although I liked the oh-so-cool Harley Davidson clothes better... I've talked so much about it, it may actually be under the Christmas tree this year... for ME :) Shelli, we need some Harley Davidson clothes dies:)
PS, what a great grandmother you are!

Shelli....really - that is going to be a great memory...my demo daughter made her FIRST build a bear when she was in 5th grade and we were at a national cheer competition in MN - so of course we were at the Mall of America...she and her friends still talk about that trip and how much fun they had with the bear...I can't believe she's already 23 - but she still has that bear out in her room! I think I may need to "steal"...I mean borrow it for my craft room to display!!! You are a fabulously fun grandmother!

I never would have believed that being a grandmother would be so much fun...and I only have two little girl granddaughters!

Please please please offer at least the SU! apron to us to purchase. My team's BAB mascot...Ms. ByYOU...has been pouting since she and I couldn't go to convention. She said to tell you that all of her demo bear friends have one and she wants one too. She understands that the stamp and bear were special for those attending convention...but ohhhh...the apron would make both of us so happy!

Many prayers for quick good health for your sister.

What a fun day and it brings back so many memories of when my son was younger! I remember spending over 3 hours the first time because of all the decisions he had to make! Looks like the kiddos had a great time. Fun, fun!

Dear Shelli,
I am so glad that you are able to have a few special moments here and there to lift your spirits! The children and the bears look like they all had a great time!
So glad that Leslie was able to escape from the hospital for a little while! God bless you and your family

You exemplify what we should all be living. Families are first and foremost our main priority.
I am a proud owner of SU!s Build a Bear - as I stood in line for a long time to claim my own and she sits proudly in my stampin' studio.
I saw the potential at convention...so many possibilities, especially for our troops, as their request is for cards to send to their children. "From Our Hearts" will be using the stamps, dies & I can only imagine what adorable creations will be donated to our effort... our troops will have awesome cards on hand to send to their children.
I love it! Thank you, Stampin' Up! has given us the opportunity to bring smiles to not only our servicemen and women, but to their children as well!

That is such a fun story. This is probably something I will get myself into some day when I have grandchildren. All in all it was fun, right?

Shelli, I see you took time to bring a few more smiles around you. The children look so happy and Thankful for their BAB's. I am still waiting for demo support to correct my bear that is missing the Stampin' UP! logo from his foot. I will enjoy having her along for some of my up coming workshops featuring the Build a Bear dies and stamps. I am very grateful for being able to attend such a nice convention and hope to be at Leadership in January...inching my way toward manager soon.
Have fun on the Australia trip and take in some me time for yourself. You deserve it!
Love

I too had to go to the BaB store in Salt Lake and purchase my bear a little outfit. She is so cute and will be going with me to my workshops this fall. Thanks for a great Convention! I look forward to Founders Circle and getting to chat with you a bit on that trip.
Please know that our prayers are with your sister and the entire family during this time as well. My mom is also battling cancer and it's been tough living so far away from her. Thankfully, she is in a sort of remission right now and won't need Chemo again until December. Take care!

What an awesome Grandma you are and what fun it must have been to see the enjoyment on their faces while they picked out what outfits they thought should be on their special bear. Cherish these moments, it goes by sooooooo FAST!

By the age of 2 all my grandparents were gone and I lost that connection so your grandchildren are very lucky to have you too!

Thank you for sharing another part of your family outings with us.

Stampingly yours,
Terry~~

Hey Shelli,
What fun you guys must have had. I have a grown-up friend and fellow demo that got me hooked on BAB a couple of years ago. I have two BAB animals, 1 bear and 1 VERY SOFT bunny. Often they wear their New England Patriots uniforms...one football for Rodney and one cheerleader for Gwen. I am sure that Gwen would love an SU! apron if I could get one on a demo order!!!
My continued thoughts and prayers for your sister Leslie (great name!! ;-))
Have a great trip and thanks for sharing so much of yourself with us!!

Our family loves Build-a-Bear and my children have created many memories there. I just recently received my new die-cut and my daughter and I have been busy making TONS of bears and dressing them up in all different combinations of clothing. What a fun addition to a wonderful craft!

Shelli,

What a great time you must of had with your grandkids. I can't wait until I become a grandma. Will the bear be available for purchase in the future. I wasn't able to make convention this year and it was heartbreaking for me. I would love to see what was available in memento mall. The hoodie sounds nice also.
May God be with You and Your family.,

So, how many thousands of dollars did you spend?! LOL! I can never seem to get out of there for less than $50.00 which includes bear, clothing and "necessary" accessories. My daughter is taking FIVE of her BAB bears to college with her . . .
